Answers to the questions families ask us most about assisted living, Enhanced Care, and life at Arcadia Senior Living Portland. Still have a question? We would love to help.
Assisted living communities provide housing, personal care, and support services to seniors who need assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and medication management, but do not require the intensive medical care provided in a nursing home.
Arcadia is locally owned and boutique, so our team knows every resident by name. We staff based on actual care needs rather than occupancy, at closer to one caregiver for every seven residents than the industry average, and because we offer Enhanced Care right here in the same community, residents rarely have to move again as their needs grow.
Being locally owned and operated means Arcadia is genuinely part of the Portland community, with ownership and leadership close enough to know our residents and their families personally, not managed from a corporate office states away.
Enhanced Care is a higher level of hands-on support delivered right here in our Portland community, including two-person transfers, Hoyer lifts, wound care, feeding-tube support, and diabetic care, so residents can stay in the home they know even as their needs grow.
We care for many residents with cognitive decline or dementia who are safe and thriving in assisted living. We don’t have a secured memory care unit, so it really comes down to the individual, their needs, and how their diagnosis presents day to day. Rather than rule anyone out from the start, we’d rather talk it through with you, so please contact our community for a full assessment and we can help figure out if we’re the right fit.
The biggest factor is isolation. Even with a caregiver visiting or family checking in, living alone increases the risk of falls, dehydration, and UTIs, and it is simply lonelier. Residents at Arcadia are around people for meals and activities every day, which makes a real difference for mental health, even for those who are not naturally social.
Care needs can change over time, and Arcadia is prepared for that. If a resident ever requires a higher level of support, we offer Enhanced Care right here in the same community, so families never have to search for a new place or start over somewhere unfamiliar.
Arcadia Portland offers a full calendar of activities built around what our residents actually enjoy, from exercise classes and games to outings and scenic drives. We also partner with the local community: we sponsor Bunko nights at the Gresham Community Center, and our residents give back through projects like blanket-making for a local women’s shelter and packing supplies for the Clackamas Services Center.
At Arcadia Senior Living, residents enjoy restaurant-style dining with chefs preparing delicious meals tailored to individual needs. Even those with diabetes can find tasty options on the extensive menu. From choosing a table to placing an order with a server, the experience feels familiar and enjoyable.

Arcadia accepts small pets and realizes how important they are to our residents. A pet fee applies; reach out to our team for current pet policy details.
Residents can have overnight visitors in their private apartment for up to a week’s stay. Meal tickets are available at the front desk for a minimal cost.
Absolutely! Residents are encouraged to personalize their apartment with their own furniture, artwork, and cherished belongings. Creating a familiar and comfortable space helps make the transition feel more like home from day one.
We staff based on the actual care needs of our residents, not just how full the building is. On average, that comes out to roughly one caregiver for every seven residents, compared to an industry average closer to one for every twelve.
Each resident receives a pendant call-light. This sends a signal to our caregivers telling them you are in need of help. There are also wall units in the bathroom of each apartment.
Residents have their own key and can lock their apartment door for privacy, while our team still has access to check in when needed. Each apartment has a call pendant and wall-mounted pull cords connected directly to our care staff, and the building’s front doors lock after hours so visitors have to be let in. Every resident also has a personalized care plan, built with their family and medical team, that spells out exactly what keeps them safe and comfortable.
Transportation is available to all residents. General outings are regularly scheduled via our Activity Program. We have several options for transportation if you require transportation that is not part of the community activities.
Suites at Arcadia Portland start at $5,843 per month. Your total cost is your apartment’s base rent plus a personalized care plan, so you only pay for the care you actually use, rather than being locked into a fixed tier.
Instead of grouping residents into broad pricing tiers where you pay for services you may not need, Arcadia uses an individualized, point-based care assessment. Your care plan is built around your specific needs, so you are never paying a flat rate for care someone else requires but you do not. It is a more personal, and often more fair, way to price care. Learn more about how care is assessed on our Levels of Care page.
We reassess every resident’s care plan after their first week, again after 30 days, and then every 90 days after that, or any time there is a change in condition. If a resident’s needs go down, for example if they want to manage their own medications again with their doctor’s sign-off, their care plan and cost adjust too.
No. Arcadia is month-to-month with just a 30-day notice, so the decision stays low-risk for your family.

Absolutely. We welcome tours and encourage families to visit, meet our team, and share a meal.
Most residents feel settled within two to three weeks. Our team introduces themselves individually, invites new residents to activities and meals, and our Resident Council works to make sure nobody sits alone. Families are often surprised at how quickly their loved one starts to feel at home.
It is important to assess the level of care needed, the preferences and lifestyle of the individual, and to tour multiple communities to find the best fit. Consulting with healthcare professionals and discussing options with family members can also help in making an informed decision. If you are not ready for a full move, a short respite stay is a low-commitment way to experience the community first.
Talking with a parent about needing additional support can be one of the most challenging conversations a family faces. Our experienced team is here to guide you through the process with compassion, help assess your loved one’s needs, and answer your questions.
